Water: Our greatest wealth

Without a doubt water is, and always will be, one of man’s greatest fortunes. We cannot live without it. However, few people appreciate its true value. Daily we waste enormous quantities of this substance in our personal ablutions.

We are used to thinking about water as an inexhaustible asset, which is not true. Even though 3/4 of the planet’s surface is covered by water, only 3% of that is fresh water.   See entire post

What’s the importance of urban ecology to the future of humanity?

Nowadays, more than 50% of the world’s population lives in cities.  In Brazil more than 80% of the population lives in urban areas.  It is a high index showing that the future of our planet depends on solutions that must be implemented in these cities in order to preserve our ecosystems.

Many scholars consider cities as living ecosystems since they have several species interacting among themselves and with the environment.

Urban ecology is the relationship between man and the urban environment, or with everything around him in a city, whether alive or inanimate.  It seeks to understand the natural systems within urban areas, with their effects in the quality of life of living beings. See entire post
